Well, I'm already behind; but I hope to catch up to some degree. I'm trying to be realistic about the challenge this year and I can't help feel that I definitely won't be able to do all 30 days; but I hope I can do the bulk of them as I'm attempting something a bit ambitious for one of the challenges later in the month. Keep an eye out here and on X...and especially @ArcGIS Pro's run at the #30DayMapChallenge 😉
Day 1: Points

| Day 1: Points - Populated Places of the World |
Natural Earth populated places points placed prominently upon a subtle land and urban areas reference map. Pretty basic; but the biggest challenge was making sense of myriad of attributes to depict the various categories of populated places. Scalerank or min-zoom? Pop-max or max-rank? Natscale or featurecla? I settled on scalerank where 0 is the most (checking Natural Earth verbiage on this one) regionally significant population center, to the least regionally significant points with a value of 10. For an interactive map, I think I'll leverage min-zoom as a way to additionally filter these points as you zoom in / out on the map.
